Kitaidhumba, Buyende
District — 9 September 2026
His Majesty Isebantu
Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, visited
Kitaidhumba Primary School in Kidera Sub-county, Buyende District, on 9th
September 2026, where he presided over the groundbreaking of a major education
infrastructure project and joined the people of Bugabula and Busoga in
commemorating Gabula Day.
The 9th September celebration carried special significance for Bugabula and Busoga. Gabula Day commemorates the history and contribution of Gabula and provides an opportunity to promote Busoga's cultural identity, unity and socio-economic development. This year's celebrations were scaled down in recognition of the death of the Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, with Busoga joining the people of Tooro in mourning. The ceremony at Kitaidhumba therefore combined celebration with reflection: celebrating Busoga's cultural heritage and development aspirations while honouring a fellow traditional institution during a period of mourning.
Members of Parliament, Busoga Katukiro, Deputy Katukiro
The historic occasion brought together Busoga Kingdom leaders; Katukiro of Busoga kingdom and his deputy, members of parliament Busoga lukiko, Minister for presidency, Members of Uganda parliament from Busoga region, Central government and political leaders, RDCs , local leaders, development partners, Staff of DLLN Uganda, teachers, pupils, community members and other stakeholders. The event was held as part of the 2026 Gabula Day commemorations, which also provided an opportunity for Busoga to pay tribute to the late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Guests appeared in 'Kanzus' without coats as a way of Busoga's traditional gesture of mourning & respect for the late Omukama of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba!
His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV
For Developing Lives, Livelihood and Nutrition Uganda (DLLN-Uganda), the occasion marked an important milestone in its long-term commitment to improving education and strengthening community development across the Busoga sub-region. The Kyabazinga's visit marked the beginning of permanent expansion works at Kitaidhumba Primary School. According to the DLLN-Uganda project plan, the permanent expansion will provide nine classrooms, dormitory facilities and administrative offices, creating a safer, more appropriate and conducive learning environment for children. The DLLN-Uganda seven-year project report identifies the Kitaidhumba expansion as one of the organisation's major strategic priorities for 2026–2027. The project follows earlier investments at the school, including the construction of two institutional drainable pit latrines and the use of a temporary classroom tent to maintain learning continuity while permanent infrastructure was being mobilised.
DLLN Uganda Staff
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the DLLN-Uganda Executive Director, Kitimbo Daniel Joshua described the occasion as more than the beginning of a construction project. It was presented as a foundation for opportunity, dignity and the future of children in Kitaidhumba and Busoga. “Every classroom represents a child who will have a place to learn.”
The new infrastructure is intended to strengthen the school's capacity to provide quality education while giving learners facilities that support their academic, social and personal development.

In his speech, the Kyabazinga
of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV noted that he is working
tiresly through DLLN Uganda to improve livelihoods of Busoga communities
through improved agriculture, vocational skills, women's empowerment, social
protection, health and education.
Among the programme's
major achievements are:
·
28
boreholes constructed in Kidera, Buyende, Budhumbula and Buwudha;
·
A
solar-powered piped water system constructed at Kagulu Health Centre II;
·
Three
institutional drainable pit latrines, including two at Kitaidhumba Primary
School;
·
1,400
improved goats distributed to rural households;
·
Agricultural
support provided to 2,800 farmers, including approximately 280,000 improved
banana plantlets and 2,800 sacks of disease-resistant cassava planting
materials;
·
2,100
young people, young mothers and vulnerable community members trained in
hairdressing, tailoring and craft artisan skills; and
·
Six
secure houses constructed for vulnerable elderly widows.
The Kyabazinga's
visit demonstrated the importance of
cultural leadership in supporting social and economic development. The
Kyabazinga used the occasion to emphasise the importance of education and the
need to equip young people with skills that can enable them to become
productive citizens.
The visit also builds
on an earlier engagement between the Kyabazinga and DLLN-Uganda projects. In
July 2025, His Majesty visited Kitaidhumba Primary School and observed
DLLN-supported sanitation improvements, including the newly constructed
six-stance toilets, as well as a school agricultural garden.
The progression from
temporary learning arrangements and basic sanitation improvements to permanent
education infrastructure demonstrates what can be achieved when cultural
leadership, communities, government, development partners and technical
institutions work together.
